Dr. Macfield gained much of his medical training and education in Michigan. After earning a medical degree at Chittagong Medical College in Chittagong, Bangladesh, he moved to Grand Rapids to complete a medical residency at Grand Rapids Medical Education & Research Center at Michigan State University. The program was based at Mercy Health St. Mary’s.
Since then, Dr. Macfield has emphasized a holistic approach to family medicine. He maintains a special interest in functional medicine and complementary medicine.
Dr. Macfield focuses on preventive medicine, hormone replacement therapy, osteoporosis, and the management of chronic conditions, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and Crohn’s disease. In addition, he maintains an interest in Fabry disease, a rare genetic condition, and porphyria, a group of disorders caused by a buildup of chemicals in the body.
